Will Smith had gotten a part in the movie "Independence Day" and wanted to devote his time to the promotion of that as well as to attain more movie roles, since that is when his movie career was really taking off.

What happened was that the show wass killed off before Will Smith's career died like the rest of the cast. P.S. Tatiana Ali was getting too old.
