I am a medical receptionist and wear one 5 days a week. We are being takne over by a new company who has uniforms that are $60 each. That's $300 a week in uniforms! Can they force ous to pay such a rate when we can buy scrubs at Wal mart for a fraction of the price!

I am a medical receptionist. I already own several uniforms, but my bosses are selling out to another conglomerate, and they want us to shellout $60 per uniform! Seems a little unreasonable!
Help!

$300 is what I would have to pay to have enough uniforms for 1 week! Up front! Thats rediculous when I already own uniforms!

Look into taking a tax deduction for the cost of the uniform and any cleaning you may have to do.

An employer can require a uniform, but they are not required to pay for it. Many company's give you a deal on them, or they just take the cost out of your check. Most places do not provide uniform's for employees.

they should just give them to you not make you pay for it, and what do you mean $300 a week for uniforms, are you planning to wear it for 1 day and then throw it away and buy a new one

Sure. While it would be nice...and some companies do at least subsidize uniform costs...there is no law requiring it. You just have to decide whether the extra cost is worth it to work there.

they can require you to wear a uniform....you can refuse to pay for it...see what happens on your first day at work...you can be fired...there is no "law" that says they have to provide uniforms...good luck

Yes, they can. Many don't, but they are legally able to do so, unless you make minimum wage. Then they have to provide it. Here's the law:

Yep. Happens all the time. If you want the job, you pay.
