About 8 years ago there was an issue with the Penguins franchise owing Mario Lemieux upwards of 30 million dollars, but that's long past. That is what essentially lead Mario to buy the team, save them from bankruptcy, and finally get their new arena deal. It's been a long time coming and Mario should get most of the credit for saving the team...3 times...starting back in 1984 :)

Let's Go Pens!!!

I'm not sure if they still owe him money or not. But as far as everyone saying Mario 'bought' the team. I think he was given shares in the team in place of SOME of the money they owed him.

The Pens owe Mario there lives. Who knows what would have happened to the team if he hadn't stepped in and kept em rolling?
