when you mean download then from you're CD do you mean official CD's you've bought from the shops? If so windows media player has a rip function which will copy the songs off your CD's and turn them into MP3 format.

If its a real cd use windows media player. Use the rip functions. Then pick the song you want, change it into MP3 format and WAH LA... you can add it to your ipod from there.

Just go to apple' website and re-download the software and you will not only have it again, but you will have the newest one instead of an old out of date one.
