I moved in about a month ago. I paid a pro-rated fee and a month in advance. Now I'm being told that I have to pay a security deposit. When I first inquired about the apartment, I was told that I may not have to pay a deposit. Yet, when I was preparing to move in, they gave me a paper stating all the fees I had to pay and the section for security deposit is blank. It has a line drawn through it. I was told that I was not due to pay anything else until April 1st. I'm highly pissed right now. Now because I was one point from the score they required they want me to fork up $1210. Now why didn't they put that in my move in letter when I had to pay out almost $3000 to move in here. How can I fight this?

On your rental agreement does it say that the security fee is waived if you have a credit score of at least such and such number? If it states that, and your # was below then you would have to pay the deposit. If there is nothing in writing that you signed that states you may have to pay the deposit I would contact legal aid in your area.
