An oak will typically hold its leaves long into the winter. If the winter winds were mild, the leaves may still be present, albeit very dry. The least little coaxing from mother nature will cause them to fall.

Like he said. Certain oaks do not lose their leaves until the new shoots start in the spring and knock them off. If you don't see any growth in the next week or two you may have a problem.
