My best friend may be moving out of state this summer. Her parents are divorced and her dad may be moving somewhere else in the country. (She lives with her mom.) She may never see her dad again and she may never see me or her other friends ever again.

This isn't just an ordinary "best-friend" thing. She is the only person I can talk to sometimes and talking on the phone doesn't always cut it. Her mom and stepdad won't let her go on instant messenger and she rarely has time on the computer anyway.

She told me that if she has to leave, it's going to hurt her real bad. She thinks that she will become depressed and her life will stink until she's older.

I'll feel so horrible if she has to leave. She's like my sister in a way.

What should I do?

She is moving for a dumb reason... her parents think it's "too cooold" here.

~Don't stress Sweetheart. Things always work out in the end. Always. Continue to be her friend and think positive. Her parents could work things out. And, even if they don't, her Dad may end up staying in the area anyway. And she could be here too.

You should stay in touch. I have moved 31 times in my life and have friends all over the United States. I think it is easy to stay in touch now then ever before... there is internet with email and video, long distance is many times free compared to when I was younger we had to pay per minute and most people have cell phones. You and your friend even though different, should easily be able to stay best friends.

The parents aren't doing this to hurt your best friend. There are reasons behind the decisions. It definately hurts to lose a friend, but she won't be entirely gone. You could set up dates to go see her and she could come see you. It'll be fun for both of you to learn about a new place. Letters through snail mail are always great pick me ups too.
