There isn't a high degree of risk involved as far as damage to the equipment goes, but there could be risk to your hearing. Try to always turn the amplifier off (or at least cut the volume) before inserting or removing plugs from it.

Yes it will make a nasty sound. Best way.. turn the volume down on the amp from ...11 (Ha!) and remove plug from jack. Pull the guitar cord out by the metal or plastic jack sleeve never the cord and pull. Also never play bare foot and never with wet floor. Always check a microphone with the back of your hand first to see if the grounding of you and of a PA system jive.

They make a new cord that has a button on it that shorts it out so you can change cords/guitars without any distortion.

It's not likely to harm anything, BUT, it is recommended that you turn off the amp, then turn off any effects, then finally, remove the bass.

You COULD shock the internals, but not likely. If it's a tube amp, it'd be more sensitive to shocks and such. Either way, I wouldn't recommend doing it.
