It should be weighed of course , then find a place that will appraise it ( get it authenticated) and go to a place that will buy it.

u have to take it to an assaying company that deals in raw gold. Of course if u r at a gold mine, u just take it to the front office, they weigh it and tell u what it is worth and then offer to buy it.

I would get it appraised for a fee by an independent appraiser. I would then visit a number of gold buyers and take offers.
