I currently have both, but the Acer is new so I can't comment much on the customer service. However, the bang for the buck with the Acer is excellent. The same notebook configuration I got with Acer will cost at least a few hundred more from the Dell site.
One of the differences I notice is that the Dell website is much better than Acer's for downloads and online support. So if you are a relative newbie and need support, I'd choose Dell. However, if you know what you're doing and know how to find answers yourself (ie, track down appropriate drivers) then you might be better off with Acer in terms of cost-efficiency.
I've had notebooks from HP and Sony too, and my observations are that Sony has excellent customer service and a good support website, but their laptops are over-priced, not easy to customize or fix/upgrade yourself, and the construction isn't top-rate (doesn't match the price you pay). As for HP, I had the worst customer service experiences with them and have vowed never to buy a laptop from them again. So far I have kept to this.

I think Acer because i have a acer 17" crt monitor and it has not let me down even once. For me Dell is just too expensive and another thing is that you cant properly see what you are buying from DELL.
So go for ACER, its way better and cheaper.

Acer is both cheap and HP garbage
Dell is quite a monster
I've had both of them my old Acer is cute and was cheap but lacks in performance, now I love my "custumized online bought 2 year old dell laptop"
I'd rather Dell.

I've never used an Acer, and I've heard that the Dell desktops suck horribly. However, but I do like my Dell laptop very much. I have noticed however that the Firewall is very weak and you need to have anti-spyware and anti-malware installed on your laptop as well as anti-virus. Other than that, I really enjoy using it.

Neither, they are both not that great. If money is not an issue, i would reccomend an Apple iMac Desktop or and Apple Macbook Laptop, but if I had to choose between the two, I would go with Acer. But still tury to get a mac, they are AWSOME!

I'd say go with Dell. I have a Dell desktop and laptop and they are both great.

I prefer Dell computers. I have a 6 year old laptop that I love. They are reliable and have great coupons.

Between those 2 i would say dell but outside the box i would say HP laptop/notebooks are the best.
