I'm driving to Florida and taking the Discovery Cruise ship across to the Island.
I thought the 200.00 fare included a vehicle, but it doesn't.
So know I need to get my vehicle to the island as I don't want to leave it in Fort Lauderdale's pier parking garage for 2 weeks.

Rent a storage facility in Ft. Lauderdale for a month. It will cost about $30 for the month. Put the truck into it and put on a good padlock. When you return, just pull the truck out and cancel the lease (its normally a month to month).

In general you cant bring your vehicle to the Grand Bahama Islands, unless you are a resident there. You can rent a vehicle from any of the major car rental place there. You need to be at LEAST 25 and have a valid US or Canada drivers license and full insurance. You will be issued a temporary driver's license good for several months. It's cheap.

If you do NOT have a driver's license they will accept, you have to take the test there for an International Driver's License.

Aside from car rentals, the primary rental on the island is a motorcycles and mopeds and similar. Large vehicles are generally NOT permitted at all. I dont know how big your truck is, but unless you are the head of a multi-billion dollar corporation and paying the top officials on the island the special waiver fee - AND have corporate offices employing at least 50 people, you will NEVER have a large vehicle on the island.

If you are over the age of 65 and WANT to drive, be prepared for an ordeal! They do NOT allow you to drive once you are older! You will need to import a medical technician that can provide a complete physical for you in front of Bahamian medical officials to verify you are healthy enough to drive!

Also - there is no such thing as "handicap driving" on the Bahamas - if you are physically impaired, you WILL be assigned a chaufer to personally drive you around.
