Lately, I've been having some sleeping problems. I can't sleep. I want to, and I feel sleepy, but when I go to bed; I toss and turn for 10 hours. I don't know what the problem is. I think part of the problem is becasue of my matress, and the other part is becasue of my intensive workout; my muscles are kinda tired. Anyways, what do you the think the best unprescribed sleep medicne ?

I'm 20 years old, male.

One more thing, will the sleeping medicne affect my hormones, my muscles, or anything.

Try some Melatonin. It is a natural hormone produced in the brain. It is like a clock that tells you when to go to bed and when to wake up...if these levels are out of whack you will have problems sleeping. They come in 1mg or 3mg. I would start off with the 1mg to see if that will work for you, if not then take two and up to three...do not exceed 3mg in a 24hr period. These should be taken about 30min before you want to go to sleep. They will sometimes cause some slight grogginess in the morning for about the first week while u'r body adjusts to them...other than that there are no common side affects. They are not addictive and do not affect any other hormones (aside from what your body already produces of the melatonin).

One of the best herbal medicines for promoting natural, restful sleep is Valerian Root (use the tablet or capsule form). Take it 1 hour before you want to go to sleep. It works as well as most prescription medications and it is NON- Addicting. You can get Valerian Root at Health Food Stores. It will not affect your hormones.
Get a new mattress.
Exercise can be stimulating for some people. Try to exercise earlier in the day.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

You might have Insomina. Try taking these; Calcium - 1,500 to 2,000mg daily in divided doses, after meals and at bed time. (Calcium can give a calming effect. Do not use Calcium Lactate if you are allergis to dairy products.) Use also Magnesium - 1,000mg daily. (used to balance the calcium and to relax the muscles. ::IMPORTANT:: Melatonin - Start with 1.5mg daily taken 1hr before bedtime. Gradually start increaseing your dosage if this one dosnt work. You can go all the way up to 5mg.

Some Herbs that are also really good for Insomnia: Kava Kava, Skull Cap, Valerian Root, and Passion Flower are all good in the capsule form. If you drink the liquid version it just tastes nasty. Hope this Helps!

Believe it or not the best sleep medicine is exercise. That's right! No worry about side effects or pills. Try to get an exercise program that you can do daily and watch the results!!!! IT works!

Try 'SleepSense' it is a herbal medication. the base product is 'Melatonin' and it will help you sleep. There are no side affects, and no after affects. You get a good nights sleep and wake up refreshed. Recommended by doctors instead of sleeping pills.

A dietary supplement mixing Valerian Root and melatonin is a great combination to help you fall asleep quickly and sleep soundly. Melatonin is also shown to have antioxidant effects which means it will help your cells modulate oxidative stress while you're sleeping--that's a bonus! :)

Both are very safe.

I have a couple of remedies that work and I have tried these. One is Melatonin which is a herbal medicine. The second one is Benadryl believe it or not, it has diphenhydramine in it that makes you drowsy and helps you fall asleep.

First, don't exercise so close to bed time, that can keep you awake. Next, avoid sleep meds if you can, they are easy to get dependent on. Try chamomile tea at night, or even warm milk (believe it or not). Make sure your room is comfortable and quiet. Sometimes, I turn on a really boring TV show and that puts me to sleep quickly.
