I have had issues for many years that wont dissolve. This has caused a more disfunctional relationship with my mother and I. I know what happened and I know it was many years ago, but it also means many years of not having a relationship with my mom. Everybody says let it go but that means I have to lay down as a loser and a failure, but I have a problem with that and refuse to accept it. But I dont want to go crying to some shrink for pity, all I want is some understanding. I talked to someone yrs ago and all she could offer was everybody elses stories, experiences, and lessons, which is one reason Ive waited this long to call a psych

Talking to the right people will definately help. I would suggest going to a therapist- but if you aren't satisfied with their style, please see somebody else. Don't give up on the whole profession. I've spoken to a few therapists that were less than helpful (and one that was quite damaging), but I finally found one that could help, and she really did help me a lot.

Hi,

I believe the right therapist will be able to help you. There are some mental health professionals who are inadequate as such. There are others who are excellent, but cannot help all clients. You need the right one for you.

Please remember you. alone, do not bear the onus for the relationship between you and your mother. It takes two. You are not the only problem. Sometimes, children are taught by a parent that they are the problem when this is not true.

I believe that you will be able to resolve your issues.

Well, I do not have enough information to help you out in this case. What issues do you have, and what is going on with your mother. I can't say what I have to say will be much help, but I have a verrrrrry disfunctional family, & there are alot of things I have had to deal with and go through in my life. I may not be able to help you, but I do know I will tell you nothing but the truth no matter what if you want to try!

You need to find a counselor who will listen and let you get all that out before your mother is gone and your problems stick in neutral. Ask over the phone what kind of therapy they offer and tell them you need one on one. I hope you find one that will listen. That's what they're paid to do!! A therapist that tells you stories on your time is just lazy and should have been a teacher!!

Almost everyone "need" a psychologist, as everybody need some friends to share with them. It is very important to check yourself with a profesional help. You don't need dramatic or traumtic reasons for that (Actualy teraphy can prevent it).

Why do you feel as a looser? Personaly, I believe that people who can forgive are great.

Why do you think you have to cry for pity there? You can talk about your current problem that can't let it go.

Good luck.

"Letting it go" does nothing to solve your problem. It has to be processed and a good therapist or psychologist could help you. Having an outside eye on your situation can help you understand it. So, yes, try seeing a therapist.
