I have had issues for many years that wont dissolve. This has caused a more disfunctional relationship with my mother and I. I know what happened and I know it was many years ago, but it also means many years of not having a relationship with my mom. Everybody says let it go but that means I have to lay down as a loser and a failure, and I have a problem with that and refuse to accept it. But I dont want to go crying to some shrink for pity, all I want is some understanding. I talked to someone yrs ago and all she could offer was everybody elses stories, experiences, and lessons, which is one reason Ive waited this long to call a psych

Those issues you have with your mom will not go away, ever. They will remain as part of your psyche and your life experience.

But, there is no need to want those issues to dissolve. Those incidents are part of your life and helped shape you into the person you are today.

A person makes thousands of decisions in his life. Some are right. Some are wrong. However, we cannot go back and change those decisions. We can only know that we made the best decision we could at the time, and, now, we must let it be.

Making bad decisions doesn't make you a loser. It makes you an imperfect human, which we all are.

Accept your decisions and move on.

Letting it go, does not mean that you are a loser, it can mean that you have risen above it and are not letting it control you anymore. nobody but you can know what you need to do to get past whatever happened.
Sometimes you have to see several psychologists before you find one that is able to help. you do not have to stick with the first one you come across. make an appointment, if you do not like what is said or how they go about trying to help, make another one with someone else. and keep it up until you find someone that can help you.
