If anyone is interested in setting up our own little network, would you please e-mail me? Some of the ignorant responses I have seen today to questions about breastfeeding/extended breastfeeding have prompted me to think that we need each other to talk to. I don't know any other moms around where I live that have any experience at extended breastfeeding. I would love to talk with moms who are actually intelligent about the subject!

Thanks for the responses so far! I'm glad some of you are interested. I will probably look into a My Space page!

Okay, ladies, I have created a My Space account. I have to wait 7 days before I can create a group. Please be patient with me as I have never used My Space before! In the meantime, feel free to e-mail me!

Rock on Cheryl, I was just thinking the same thing today! I've been adding ladies to my contacts who are breastfeeding/cosleeping mommy's, but it would be nice to go somewhere where "ignorance" is not prevalent.
I'm breastfeeding my daughter, who is 8 1/2 months old now, and plan on doing it for at least 2 years, if not longer.
Let me know!

You might be able to find women who are extending breastfeeding through your local Le Leche group, they are big on extended breastfeeding. I know the one near where I live has a breastfeeding a toddler group.

Good luck!

EDIT: I don't breastfeed my son, but I do pump and feed him my milk in the bottle, I've only had to use formula a few times. I do plan on continuing to give him my milk past 1 year. If you do make a group, send me a message and I'd like to join.

i am not really interested in entering a group, but only because my 2nd is about to be born and i HONESTLY doubt i will have time to contribute to the group. but i want to say, u have a great idea i breastfed my first til she was 18 months old. i only finally stopped because i was going to school and the school didnt help me with the pumping thing during the day so it got so uncomfortable i had to wean her over spring break. (this was while i was in high school because im a teen mom and my daughter is 3 now.) i live in arkansas. but like i said, i wont really have time to contribute to the group. just wanted to say thats a great idea (btw i do intend on breastfeeding the second one up til at LEAST a year. if i have to wean it will be because of this time i wont be a stay at home mom after a certain time (i gotta get a job so i can have a college education too.)

That sounds like fun! My daughter is nine months and is still breastfeeding. Most moms I know quit breastfeeding within the first few months. I get the impression that many of my friends and family members think that I too should have quit months ago and it makes me question my decision. Having the support of other breastfeeding moms would be wonderful! If you do set this up please e-mail me at lil_dolly85@yahoo.com
Thanks
Shannon

Absolutely! I've always believed that the success of breastfeeding for any given mother is besed on two things: education and support. And if you have support from other mothers, you can share the education and keep up to date, helping each other out with issues as they arise. I'm on my local LLL web group, but I'm always looking for more moms to connect with. I can't ever seem to make it to their meetings in person because they typically happen during nap time and aren't in a very child-friendly setting (a room at a church with no toys). So please, let me know if you set this up because I'd like to be part of it. Maybe through yahoo or myspace?

I know what you mean about ignorant responses!

I would LOVE to! I only breastfed my daughter for a year, but after doing some research into the subject later on, discovered that she still would have benefitted greatly if I had continued to nurse her. I plan on having 3 more children, and breastfeeding them all at least a year, and at that point either choosing to continue based on where we are in life, or pumping my milk and giving it to my child in a sippy cup, so they can still reap the benefits. Perhaps you can set up a myspace for moms like us. You can run it, and only add moms like us to your friends list. Then we can communicate with eachother directly, and also share information with everyone by posting comments directly on the page. You can contact me via email or instant messenger at mrs.mama21@yahoo.com and you can view my myspace at www.myspace.com/rachelemonique

Thanks for sharing your great idea!!! I hope to hear back from you, and that we can get something started!

Well I am available....... I live in San Bernardino, Ca........ and am still breastfeeding my son who just turned 1 in March. I of course give him other foods, and he drinks water, juices, and milk, but he still wants to breastfeed, and I don't really have a problem with it (except at night of course) but after so much trouble with Dr. telling me that I probably shouldn't breastfeed I would love to talk to moms who do breastfeed.

I think I can host a second wordpress blog on my site, I think which would allow each of us to have passwords. I don't know anything about mySpace so I don't know if it allows multi user accounts.

I really wish their were more advocating groups out there LLL doesn't really advocate and WHO (understandably) has bigger issues. I know kids in the US die from formula feeding but it is nothing compared to the AIDS epidemic, malnutrition etc worldwide.

That sounds like an excellent idea.

What's your Myspace user name so we can find you?
