Why not try seeing if there is a charity computer place in your area.Or go and see if any business in your area is getting rid of old computers. As far as the software goes, you might have to put out some money. Maybe if you convince your folks that a new computer will make your, and their, lives easier they might be able to come up with the money or help you come up with the money. Just remember, you don't need the best and latest just something better!!!

Thatz easy...
Get a hammer and break the old one ;) Just joking, if you parents are a bit technologically challenged just tell them what you told us that there is no power point and the computer is slowing down your thinking pace that is why you have failed maths.
Dude, I believe you know your parents more that i do. Figure somthing out... something like you can't run the programs they gave you at school, they are too large for the:
*hard disk
*memory
*and the processor is the same speed as the one on your PDA.
Alternativelly you pay me a couple of Euros so I can visit my girlfriend and i convience your parents for you. Believe its not that difficult of you put a lil' effort in it...
Good luck

If nothing else works, convince them that you will work for the money by doing odd jobs around the house. You may end up getting the computer yourself, but if you do, you can claim ownership to it yourself and they can't do anything to it. *Especially* if it is registered in your name. This makes it legal and if they do anything (harmful) that is registered to you, they would have to pay for the damages and (if the content or software is so valuable to you) you could sue them for it. Depending on how that parent-teenager relationship is.
On my own experience, begging did nothing to convince my own parents. I had to convince them of all the wonderful things that could be done on a computer. While the one that we ended up with is now about 7 years old, it is basically me and one of my sisters that really keeps things up to date in it.

Give the computer some new life with UBUNTU and use the OpenOffice suite which is compatible with windows and other office suites.
Get UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if your computer has less than 256MB of RAM).
It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.
You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".
It's easy to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.
Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.
Always back up your data before making changes to your computer.
