I bet you have a mobo with an nForce chipset.
I had a similar problem. I proved it was the motherboard (to my satisfaction) because I managed to format it fine on another PC. I returned it to the shop - (I'd bought the components at the same time) and got an IDE (PATA) drive instead. Investigation on the internet revealed issues with nForce chipsets and NCQ SATA drives.
Next time I upgraded, I made sure the chipset was not nForce and the SATA drive was not NCQ enabled...
Still some problems!!! Until I downloaded the disk manufacturer's software "Data Lifeguard Tools" - after using these there was no problem.

It struck me that there might have been a similar solution first time around... so check the disk manufacturer's website for any SATA disk tools.
I always used Maxtor PATA drives and never had any trouble (once I had discovered their "bigdrive_enabler"), but the SATA drive I finally got working was a WD.

Good Luck! I hope it's an easy solution!

in case you further a 2d stress, after figuring out to purchase the computer, you may have necessary as an instance on the controller for the 2d card. Many BIOS structures do no longer turn on unused ports, as this basically makes use of up elements for an empty hollow. you should enter the BIOS setup software at boot, oftentimes finished by ability of hitting the delete key in the first few seconds, yet may nicely be diverse on your gadget. test by the settings menus to discover the listings for the SATA controllers. IF the 2d controller is disabled, then enable it. BE VERY careful WHAT you adjust in the BIOS. in case you imagine you replaced some thing you should no longer have by ability of mistake. go out out without saving, and start up over. the incorrect bypass can make your gadget act up or unusable.

Partition page?

If you are installing Windows XP you will need to have a driver disk for the sata drives. Windows XP requires this to be able to work with the drives and you will need to tell it to look for the driver disk during the install. "press F6 to load additional drivers and SCSI support". The installation will then pause midway and ask you for the driver disk.

Hope this answers what I think your asking.

Hi if the discs are raw it means if you are using winxp you have to format them in either fat32 OR NTFS, the latter would be for winxp..if you are using Vista you have to initialise the discs. you can find how to do this in help and support..or you can email me directly if you like...Steve
