Margaret Mead's 'Coming of Age in Samoa' is generally regarded as one of the first books to deal with adolescence/teenagers in a cultural context. Her research is now somewhat debated.

Supposedly Margaret Meads 'Coming of Age in Samoa'... yet here in New Zealand, in Samoa and American Samoa (where she did her observations) many Samoans disagree after reading her book and to some extent joke about her findings. So most probably Margaret Mead ....
