EMO people don't scare me, the annoy me. For example, I was dating this guy and he went all EMO on me after the first week saying things like nobody loves him except for me, and his mom was mean to him, and he never does anything right and so on and so forth. Totally fishing for compliments or for me to say "of course I love you" and yadda yadda.

Immediately I told the guy "first off, it's only been a week of dating and it's a little early to be madly in love with you." I also said that he should do something about this [thing] instead of crying about it. He was shocked because he didn't get the response that he was expecting and got angry. He would say stuff like "I've tried do to [that] and I can't!! I just f*ing can't!!"

I don't like to be put in the position of being responsible for anyone emotional health. That is their problem they have to deal with. People aren't going to be there to hold their hand all the time and if so they have doctors for that, ya know? People like that make everyone around them feel uncomfortable.

However, I've met lots goth people that are awesome. But! If you're in high school and are dressing goth then be prepared for people to be stupid. Being goth doesn't necessarily mean you're emo. :)

Emo/goth people don't scare me. Honestly the knowledge that some of them are trying to scare me or intimidate me is what makes them most irritating. As long as you treat other people with respect they will accept you in time. Most of the time that I've been irritated with someone who fit into that group it was because of their attitude toward me, not because of how they dressed.
A lot of the emo kids around here have some superiority complex. First they assume that I'm scared of them because they're "different" and they also assume that they're unique, cool, etc. In reality it is just a trend like any other teenage trend. It is a form of dress and music, it won't change your personality, creativity, uniqueness. As long as you are being realistic and seeing it as such then other people are the ones with the problem, not you. If you do find yourself developing the dreaded emo kid superiority complex, then its no ones fault but your own if others react badly to you.

Ahh...please stop labelling people! You're creating the problem! and you labelled yourself! I ask, how can you "turn" emo? You m ake it seem like you just jumped on the bandwagon like you're suddenly emo. Yeah, it's wrong that people make fun of "emo" kids and say they hate them, but part of the reason is that it is sort of like the new trend. "Emo" kids want respect for being different but they're actually not that different...they all dress alike and all started dressing that way recently. I respect people if their style is truly who they are, whether they're emo or not, but I dislike labels.
As for the whole goth thing...I dont' know why people are afraid of them. All the kids who dress "goth" at my school are funny and generally cool people. People don't fear emos-they're f ucking harmless. People are just afraid of extremes.

EMOs are too depressing. Why not just be you. Why categorize yourself. As you get older, you'll learn that people will respect you for your individuality rather than what "group" you belong to. I know that in junior high/high school, you're trying to fit in and be a part of something, but you should set the standard. Don't be afraid. All great people (i.e. Martin Luther King Jr, etc) have separated themselves apart from others in some way. Good luck.

Being "scared" is different from being disliked or hated. Scared implies intimidating.
Emo is sort of the modern version of goth, and some dislike both because they suspect it is pretentious. Teenagers tend to be moody and needlessly over-dramatic as it is, and some people tend to act even more so when they become emo or goth just to make themselves seem more important. (ie, "my soul is so dark and twisted and filled with angst, therefore I am cool and not lame and boring like you.")

Or they just don't understand what emos are really like, and are working from false assumptions. This is your chance to explain to them what being emo means to you.

I dont personallly! But in the absence off real truth people will be fearful. Tell them why you dress/act the way you do. That will clear up a lot of sterotypes that people have. Some of them may not know what an emo is!

Maybe they are wondering why you changed. They might feel like suddenly you are different and you don't want to relate to them anymore. Maybe they interpret your change to emo as a "statement" that you don't like them and you don't want to be like them. It is typical for people to feel insecure, and if they feel insecure around you, maybe they lash out and say cruel things. People are just people. Take a look at your heart and reach out to people you care about. Let them know your decision to go emo is not about them, it is about you and you still are the same person who cares about them. For everyone else, who cares what they think anyway, right?

People are scared of anything they dont understand. So the majority will be mean to cover up the fact that they are scared, or maybe even a bit jealous of someone who wants to show they're different. Just carry on being yourself
