Well 1st off they are not cheaper.. my friend adopted from Guatemala and it cost her $30,000.00. When my parents adopted me (over 30yrs ago) it only cost $3000.00. But when you adopt here in the states you can use a lawyer and only pay for the hospital bills and lawyer fees and even some cases you can use your insurance to help pay. If I were to adopt I would want to adopt from Brasil the children there are extremely needy. At least here most children can live in Foster care.. in other countries they are living on the streets or in orphanages.

I agree with your point. There are so many American children who live in deplorable conditions, are abused, are tossed around from one foster home to another, who end up on the streets. I'm not saying I don't agree with foreign adoptions, those kids deserve homes too. But these celebrities go and adopt multiple kids from foreign countries. If they want several children then they could give some of the poor American kids a chance at a good life too.

There is less red tape in other countries. It may be a little more expensive, but you don't hear of many cases of international adoption where the birth mother changes her mind and gets the baby back whereas with domestic adoptions the adoptive parents are put through sooooooo much. A woman I knew was a foster parent to a baby from when he was 2 days old, he was seized because he tested positive for drugs at birth. His mother didn't want custody and just disappeared, but the courts had to go through a long drawn out process to make sure that she was given enough time to come back and claim the baby if she wanted to. The little boy wasn't adopted until he was 18 months old, after living with the woman I know for that entire time.

Part of it is because it's faster and another probable reason is that there are too many reports in the US of someone trying to adopt a child and then all of a sudden the birth parents change their minds and then there's a court struggle for the next 2-3 years and then the child is ripped from the arms of the only parents they've ever known. There's a case like that right now where I live. The child is now 8!

The fact of the matter is... they get more media coverage. All of the sudden they are the center of attention b/c they are helping another country with their poverty and population issues. It is also that the media doesn't cover the adoptions inside of the US b/c they don't see it as big news. We are not considered a third world country so I guess they figure kids here don't need the same help and caring as foreign children. Your question is an excellent one and maybe someday people will wake up and realize we need to take care of our own first!!

I actually think publicity has nothing to do with it.
It is almost impossible to adopt an infant here in the USA. There are so many rules, and guidelines and hoops to jump through. There is a cap on age of the parents, and if you are single, forget it!! Most people want to adopt an infant, the majority of kids here up for adoption are older, sad but true!

Nobody wants to admit there are needy children in the US so adopting an american baby gets them no press-they may pretend they hate the papparotzi but they would be noone without them. It's sad but true

To bring attention to the issues that children and women are facing in those countries and for publicity.

Partly because it's faster and easier, partly because they are not as well known as celebrities in those countried, partly for publicity (aren't we wonderful?) but mostly because the foreign birth mothers can be counted on not to appear in a couple years and demand either the baby, or money.

I dont think its just celebs, I think a lot of people do it because its an easier process. I plan on adopting children one day if I dont have any of my own. They will be from Mexico.
