Take an old pan or one you don't use to cook food in, add a pint or two of water and one to three cups of sugar. You can experiement to your liking. The more sugar, the thicker it is and less likely to spill.

To this mixture boil in one tablespoon of boric acid. That's a powder that can be obtained at your drugest.

After it cools, pour it into small containers such as 4 oz plastic gladware. You can remove the lid or leave it in place, if you poke several holes in the top. Another good type container are cheap shot glasses such as sold at liquor stores for next to nothing.

Place these containers around where you see these ants and in out of the way places. You don't want children or pets to get into them. And, remember to clean the pan well to prevent contamination. That's why I recomend an old pan or one you wouldn't ordinarily cook food in.

It takes about three days or so to kill them with this method. They find the sugar water and take it back to the nest. You'll see the line of ants begin to thin out until there is no more.

After three days if this doesn't kill them, increase the dose to two tablespoons. If you make it too strong, it will kill the ants before they have a chance to give it to the rest of the nest.

This will work, is very cheap and has no smell. You can also make it thicker with more sugar and thus less likely to spill.

I put a small container of one of these on the outside of my windows in the spring and rarely, if ever, am bothered by ants.

There are also pet/child proof ant-traps available which enclose the poison. Hot water on the nest will do it (you'll need to follow the trails of ants back to find it.

Once some have consumed the poison, be sure to let them get it back to the nest to pass it on.

Do NOT squash the ants - this gives off a chemical that the ants can detect and will only encourage them.

Watch where the ants are walking but don't kill them. You need to buy NIPPON ant killer it's Gel in a small tube.
Put a tiny drop on a small piece of paper where they are walking they eat it and also take it back to the nest which in turn kills the nest. Be patient it doesn't happen immediately but it works.

Try those little ant traps that you put on their trail. They'll poison their own nest but you don't need to worry about the house. You can find them in supermarkets.

Try to block where they are coming in from, try not to leave foods and crumbs around as they will keep coming for them, you should try to use ant spray.
