Depending on where you live, monkeys as pets maybe illegal in your area. Call you local ASPCA to find out.

Be aware monkeys are extremely intelligent and mischievous. Even monkeys trained as assistance animals must be disciplined with a waist band that shocks them into behaving.
That should give you an idea of how difficult they are to train. They are quite willful. Even the small "cute" ones will give you a nasty bite.
That should also give you some pause, think about what you're getting yourself into.

A stuffed one. Monkeys should NEVER be pets - they are wild animals and should be left as such.

There are numerous stories of monkeys attacking owners, biting off fingers of guests, ruining homes, transmitting diseases, etc. Aside from the abhorrant breeding practices involved with exotic animals. Often times, the babies are ripped from their mother's arms as young as two days old. This scars both the mother and the baby for life. The mothers are often kept in small breedng cages and live just miserable lives.

You will have a hard time finding an apartment or any rental property that will rent to you. Insurance companies will increase policies.

Remember, a monkey travels miles a day in the wild. Confining him to a 2x2x2 cage is outright cruel.

Monkeys are CONSTANTLY given up to rescues because they are much more work than expected. Everyone expects Marcel from Friends and it just doens't work like that.

Capuchins and Spider Monkeys both make fairly good pets. Monkeys are extremely hard to train. They are extremely smart and strong willed. If you want something cute and tiny get a Tamarin they are extremely small monkeys some can actually fit in the palm of your hand. Also, a good thing to remember about monkeys is that yest they are cute and exotic pets but, be prepaired to change diapers and clean cages alot! Good Luck hope this helps.

all monkeys are great until it is old enough to breed then they are horrible and vicious no monkey is a good pet and people should not buy them because they just get rid of them so my answer is choose a different pet.

My ex's family had 2 little cappuchin monkeys when they were growing up. The kids loved them. The monkeys were very smart & cute...HOWEVER, it's strongly recommended to get males neutered, otherwise they just sit & masturbate all day long. Eeewww.

Leave the monkeys where they belong, in the wild. It's just like me wanting a Cheetah, but will never get one since they don't belong in the house.

they teach capuchin monkeys to help physically handicapped people so I'd think they would be a good choice as a pet.
