I bet you ask anyone in the league if they would want Sean Avery on their team and the vast majority would say yes. I've gotten to see him in a few games since he's moved to the Rangers and I've been impressed by his skill level. He plays in front of the net and takes the hits. He certainly gives out his fair share of hits with some facials thrown in for good measure, but players do that all the time. He gets under people's skin and that has a lot more to do with what he says to them on the ice than anything else. He's always trash talking and he goads other teams lesser disciplined players into taking stupid penalties. That is a great skill to have. He also doesn't take any crap from anyone no matter their size and sticks up for his teammates on the ice. Rather than get all pissed off at him for making "your" team do something stupid, you ought wish you had someone on your team like him.

If they are going to continue to let him play they should make him wear a muzzle. I'm tired of listening to him.
He is one of the dirtiest players in the NHL.
He loves to agitate then when whoever he has been agitating has had enough and wants to drop the gloves Avery runs and hides like a little baby.
I don't have a problem with agitators if they are willing to drop the gloves when it's time but he doesn't.

Avery is an idiot and thinks he's a tough guy... He is not afraid of scrapping (I admit that) but I have noticed that he seems tougher when his opponent doesn't see him coming.
I think the refs don't call him as much as he deserves because they don't want to slow down the game too much. Avery is like that player who thinks that as long as he fights then he won't have to be skillful. The same for his talking to the press... as long as he says something loud then he thinks he gets respect. I have always wandered what more skilled players think of him.

i would just like to say that i believe that unless something absolutely awful and inhumane is done by someone, no one should be penalized. hockey is a game in which fighting and toughness in inevitable and just a part of the game. i mean i am not gonna condone a hit like the one that was made by that islander on Ryan hollweg, but i am condoning a roughing or cross checking that occurs here and there. so therefore, i feel Avery is penalized just enough

I hate to see anyone lose their profession and passion.
That stick to the eye that Mr. Avery Chose to do. Is one of the
most vicious and horrible displays of sportsmanship I have
ever seen. I believe in my humble opinion that Mr. Avery
should receive a life time ban from The NHL.

You're joking I assume. Dirtiest player in the league? Please...Have you watched Broduer chop anyone near his crease or swing his stick between their legs? How about cheap shot Ruutu? Or Witt, who goads guys into fights and runs away and wonders why he gets punched in the face? How about Tucker who hipchecks everyone in the knees. How about Todd "Hit you in the Numbers" Fedoruk, the boarding King. "Hatchet Job" Hatcher.....the name says it all. And perhaps the cleanest player ever, Cris "Tomahawk Chop" Simon. I don't think Avery ranks in the top 20. You need to watch more hockey.

Refs tend to call less of those on guys who do that alot. Its avery's job to do that and teams value it very much. But yeah he gets away with way to much.
