NOT my original plan mind you, but circumstances have found me pumping exclusively for my 4 month old. I have been doing so for about two months now. I was wondering,

1.) Is it possible to continue pumping for the first year?
2.) If you have done this, how much did you put out a day?
3.) How many times a day would you pump, once the baby is 4 months?
4.) During the night too?

I average between 25 and 30 ounces a day, pumping. I pump for 20-30 minutes at a time, every 2-3 hours, or at least 6-8 times a day. Lately I have been really fatigued and have been missing my usual 5 am pump, but have kept the midnight and 8 am ones. Thanks for looking.

You go mommy....I have 4 children and breastfed all 4 of them. My first two were only breast since I did not work, but my 2 youngest I breastfed and pumped.

I continued pumping until I was ready to wean my baby, she was 14 months old. She is now 3 yrs old. I have a 2 month old right now that I breastfeed at night but would still pump after feeding. I usually pump out 4-6 oz each boob after feeding. I pump in the morning at 6am after feeding him then at work at around 10am (which is a total of about 16-18 oz), then I go home and breastfeed, pump at work at 3pm, then I get off at 5pm, go home and breastfeed. I say I pump around 48 oz during the day and still breastfeed. YES, I am a milk machine. Its a full time job on top of my full time job.

Have patience and remember to drink lots of fluids. I usually drink at least 8-10 (16 oz) bottles of water a day. I did the same for my 3 yr old daughter and I believe mother's milk is the best. She has not gotten sick...(knock on wood) at all.

Wish you the best...and way to go!!!

I am exclusively pumping for my 5 month old. I was able to pump about 30 ounces then I went on the birth control pill and my milk decreased significantly (down to 12 ounces), I stopped and worked hard at getting my milk back up, I can now pump about 25 ounces. I pump about 5-6 times in 24 hours, only once during the night. I pump for about 12 minutes at a time. I use the Pump in Style Original.

Good for you! What an awesome mama you are!

To answer your questions:

1. yes, the better the pump you have the easier it might make it (ie double hospital grade)
2. haven't done it, however, every woman's body is different. I wouldn't judge yourself based on what other women may have been able to pump.
3. pumping should ideally occur every few hours, just the same as a baby would nurse
4. yes, through the night too.

Keep up the great work you are doing!

My baby is now 5 months old and all I do is pump. He only gets breast milk too. I make sure I drink lots of water and pump every 2-3 hours no matter if I need to or not.
