There have been many assassins throughout history. Infamous as they have become, mob assassins are among the most notorious...however, in my opinion, the most successful assassins in history are those of Masyaf, especially during the era of the Crusades. The Assassins were ranked according to intelligence, courage and trustworthiness. They underwent intense education as well as physical training.

Who knows how many assassins have never been caught or even suspected of being assassins?
It would be pretty hard to try and figure out who, among those elite, would be the best.

The ones who were never caught. The most successful assassin that was actually caught? Probably Gavrilo Princip, the man who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which was the straw that broke the camel's back, sparking World War one.
