Probably cause they havent slept in weeks and are starving! yes they earn alot of money but at what price to their health! admittedly not all models look gaunt and starved, the curvier ones look great!!

They do not look miserable, but serious. This makes them more proffessional, which is why they are trained and ordered to not crack an expression when on the runway. This also enables people to focus on the dress more than the model itself, because if the model was wearing a beautiful smile, they would obviously focus on her a lot too. Also, if the model was wearing a very angry face, people would not only back away slowly but also focus on that more than the face out of curiousity. A plain, expressionless face is what makes the clothes attract to the ppl more than the person herself/himself.

Seriously though, that look is "in." That tired, drugged out, grumpy look. I guess if you had a model flashing a great smile and looking happy, she might detract from the clothes! Who knows. Magazine ads are like that, too!

i wouldn't be happy if i was on a strict diet, constantly hungry, spent the last few hours getting my hair and body pulled trying styles and clothes that are 2 sizes too small on me!

The drugs make it difficult to do too many things at once, they can't walk, remember where to stop and pose, then turn AND smile!

b/c when you are modeling somehting you have to have a serious fierce but bland face otherwise it destracts from the clothing the models are told not to smile

they don't look miserable, they just are suppose to sell the clothes, not themselves so they don't overly express themselves. also, they are probably bored/think they look sexy when they pout.
