Bigotry wether religious, racist, sexual in any shape or form in my humble opinion can be traced to two very simple things.
1. Upbringing- no one is born a bigot but they can be taught from a very early age.
2. Feeling of threat due to lack if understanding, jealousy, or hidden feelings of shame.

Do you not think that most men who hate gays have not been inquisitive at some stage in their lives, do you not thinkl that racists have supressed feelings of jealousy of a more fruitful culture, of course it's easy to say that you are not a bigot but how does the gay man feel if his friend stands up and says, \I'm straight, does he feel threatened? I had the honour of being at a Wedding where I was the only white guy, did I feel threatened, subconciously yes, for what reason, nothing to do with the good folk there I can assure you, just lack of understanding and a feeling of not being 100% sure if I belonged. At the end of the day, all mankind needs to look at himself before he judges others. x

lack of tolerance, understanding and acceptance towards other people, bigotry exists because racists and homophobes are ignorant and intolerant of people who are different to them and of whom they cannot and are not willing to accept and embrace difference. rather instead of seeing them and treating them like human beings, they see them as a 'threat' to them when in truth their sexual orientation, ethnicity hasn't harmed or offended anybody

Because it is taught. It is certainly not inborn.

Some people learn hatred from their families, others from their houses of worship. Whatever the source, it is wrong.
