No. It's the UK symbol for "Pounds Sterling" their equivalent of the dollar.

The only equivalence I'm afraid is that it used to be the lowest paper money denomination, is no longer. The value of a pound is at just about $1.95 now, so if you saw something for 10 pounds, it would cost us approximately $19.50 at this time. Currency valuations change as time goes by, and this is about the highest it's been in over ten years because the dollar is so weak.
