Here in AZ it is illegal. Dogs die every summer from being left in the car. In this heat it is cruel to leave a helpless pet in the car alone. Even if the weather wasn't a concern, your pet could get stolen. You'd really be surprised how many stores are pet friendly and they don't care if you carry your small dog in or place it in the cart & a lot allow you to walk them in. Home depot, lowes, bed bath & beyond, most casual restaurants with patios, a lot of retail stores, car dealership, book stores, etc... Also, Best Buy is dog friendly allowing you to walk your dog of any size in!

It should be considered illegal in all states to leave a pet unattended with no windows open on a hot day. Even though it's Winter, I still wouldn't recommend it. They can mess up your car, they can get dehydrated, and pets require attention. You're better off leaving your pet at home with someone, if possible.

Legal or illegal...you should never leave a dog alone in a car. My friend left his Rotweiler in the car, he went to the store and returned after about 30 min. When he opened the car door, the dog fell out dead. The temperature in a car is always much higher then the outside temperature. Leaving a dog alone in a car should be made illegal everywhere.

I dont believe so. You could ask any local police officer just to know for sure. I only know if a dog is left in the care for along time, you could then get cruelty charges. im from nyc, and ive seen people do that just to run into a store. I think its a lot safer leaving the dog in the car then tied to a poll where someone can steal it.

It shouldn't have to be illegal. It's sad that there are people who would only worry about killing their pet if they thought they would get in trouble for it.

As long as you don't leave him all day, I guess it's fine... make sure you roll down the windows a bit..

i used to live there so its not illegal but it is very very very unwise because it kind of gets HOT there.
I hope this was not a serious question.
