i know this probably isn't what you want to hear....but using sunscreen will block the uv rays and protect your skin, but will also keep you from getting any color. you have to decide what it's worth to you. to make it somewhat more safe, protect your eyes with the rocky raccoon glasses they give you, and use sunscreen 15 at least on your face. a lotion approved for indoor tanning on the rest of your body will help you tan evenly and keep you from drying out. check with the tanning facility to see what is approved, because some lotions will crack the acrylic and they will expect you to reimberse them for repairs if your lotion caused it. make sure to wipe the excess lotion away from your cuticles-it will turn your nail beds yellow. i tan naked-but you can wear what ever you like in there. you may want to bring an extra towel to cover the little plastic pillow (the cleaner they use will burn your face). also, the uv rays fade your hair color (even if natural) so a shower cap or spf to cover your hair is a good idea.

I have very fair skin and I use SPF 15 ALL OVER before getting in for short, warming blasts (10-15 minutes) once a month in the winter months. It makes me feel energized and even though I use sunscreen, I do get a slight bronzing and my freckles pop out for a couple of days.

It won't hurt you in short intervals with sunscreen-- and it's good for helping your body produce vitamin D.
