I read this somewhere. Can you guys figure it out?

I walked in to a hardware store and asked the clerk "how much are these?"

The clerk said "One for $1 and three for $3."

I said "I'll take 87."

"That'll be $2 please."

What am I buying?

The numbers for your house.

82 are the two numbers you're buying, and each number costs $1. You're buying two numbers, so you owe $2.
