Save your money! Rear seals are not an easy fix and the additives are a joke! To properly fix the seal you need to pull out the tranny and replace the seal with a new one. If the car is loaded with miles and old, you might want to consider other options. Mechanic for over 35 years!

DO NOT USE the sealer from any parts store,it swells that seal and every other seal in your engine. after it wears off from oil changes the seals will leak. not just the rear main seal but EVERY seal in the engine. Replace the rear main seal ...you will be happy you did.

Go to auto parts store and ask for an additive to swell your rear main seal they will recommend a type for your size engine and add it to your oil. And run it for a specified time and see if it helps. Ive used these over the years and had a 60% chance of success with them. Its cheaper than having a mechanic do it internally. One success I remember was a 1952 MGB freshly rebuilt engine and after a year the rear main still leaked (OLD FASHIONED CORK GASKETS) it worked well in about three weeks. so it does work but not in all cases.

The best thing to do is replace the seal, those quick fix items are not always the best route, because when you least expect it the leak will start again and you just might be miles away from help.

Yes, sorry to say...you can put all kinds of stuff in the oil....you won't stop a main seal leak. Too much pressure. Sorry...good luck.

You will need to replace the seal itself - no products or chemicals will do anything for that one.
