After one year, you get one year pricing with a new two year contract. The reason that you pay the extra $75 is because when you start up with them and get a two year deal, you get a good price that they call subsidizing. Now, here is an idea: if you can find the phone for $300.00 or less, just buy it outright. Your contract extension is going to cost you your rate plan times 24 months. Which is better? You will probably want a new phone in a year anyway, so buy the phones unlocked from the manufacturer and when your contract is up, if Cingular has earned your business, re-up with them for a year or two and get a phone you want then.

You can renew your contract almost anytime, basically signing up for a new 2-year contract at the time. You will NOT always qualify for the 'new customer' rebates however unless your existing contract is complete. That means that you'll get some preferred pricing on a new phone after a year or so, but the BIG REBATES won't be available until your complete term is ended. (Although your local Cingular store may have variations on this normal policy). Also, be aware that MOST Cingular stores are NOT FACTORY stores. They are authorized resellers and their Terms and Conditions work differently (and sometimes better).

As far as I know, Cingular does not allow you to renew "at least" until the completion of 1 year service. Even after the completion of one year, the upgrade is dependent on the regional sales force. Sometimes they might ask you to wait your entire contract duration before qualifying for upgrade.

Usually when you upgrade your phone they will re-do the contract. Say you have a year left, and you buy a new phone that requires a 2 year contract, your contract will now be a 2 year contract from the date you purchased the phone.

I think if you are about 6 months away from your contract being over that you can renew it

probably whenever you want. They will be glad to tack on more years to your contract until they own you for life. It's all about the money man.
