I just purchased a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A. I enjoy working with it directly in my lap. Unlike a laptop computer it doesn't get hot and isn't heavy.

But my question is, does it give off radiation? (which could possibly damage my fertility etc.)

An answer from someone with a technical background, who understands radiation, would be great but any knowledgeable answer is appreciated.

Thanks!

It should shoot off a light similar to remote controls, and car alarms. Thing is about it our eyes can not see that light (it is probably in the infrared section of the light spectrum). So to answer your question NO radiation. If you cover the light emitter on the keyboard it probably will not work.

Now if I were in your lap then you would have to worry.

Yes and no. Anything regarding light, heat, radio waves etc is some form of electromagnetic radiation. However, because your exposure is at a low strength, it's doubtful that it will cause infertility. The situations where infertility is more likely is when that region of your body is exposed to heat that is warmer than your body such as a laptop and hot-tubs. This is why male testicles are separate from the body and exposure hot-tubs should be limited.

No. Wireless keyboards don't use radiation in the way you mean. No consumer electronics use radiation in the dangerous sense. They don't exactly use light either. A car alarm remote will work through your hand, it isn't light based. Car remotes and wireless keyboards (along with many other gadgets) don't use infrared light in the same way that a tv remote control does.

Your keyboard (or laptop, or any normal electronic gadget) will cause you no harm.

Well dear the thing is that these devices are configures so as to use minimum battery when not in use, you may have noticed that when you pick up the cordless mouse after a while the light goes dim and when you bring your fingers near the laser, the laser turns bright. Well this is how they have arranged for minimun battery usage but if you want to turn them off, ill suggest you wire a little switch to the side of the mouse so that you can turn it off, but it would be uncomfortable because i had did that.

It gives off an electromagnetic field and radio waves, but not what is usually thought of as radiation.
