I guess I would go with a muncie 4-speed but thats me. The 700r4 is longer, i believe may have to have driveshaft shortened. But, if u are driving a 70 chevelle u are probably not worried about gas mileage. I would go with a turbo 400 since this is the strongest tranny chevy made. But, if u were to find the console out of a chevelle that had a 700r4 it should work fine. I don't remember for sure but I believe it is a 69' body style camaro, there is several years that have the same body in the camaro, its the old steel bumper body, this car has the same console as a chevelle.

try yearone.com
for the pontiacs they make conversion kits to use the factory shifter with the 2004-r overdrive. they also make repo hurst his and hers shifters that would work with the 2004-r. with that being said i would bet that they make somthing similiar to put a factory looking shifter in a 70 chevelle with a 700r4 since chevy parts are more common. go with the 700r4. you will bet better fuel mileage and reduced engine wear. and yes it can handle the power you are making. you could also go with a 2004r. it is about the same lenght as a turbo 350 so you dont have to worry about cutting your drive shaft.

I'd stick with the 300 Turbo also. If you use a 700r4 get a new one (or new as possible) with a good warranty. I've had problems with them behind my 350. Cracked drums.

a 700r4 should work fine depending on just how much power you make. although the th350-400 are stronger. you can build the 700r4 to be just as strong. plus it comes with a better first gear and overdrive. faster acceleration ,top speed, better gas mileage, and longer engine life cant be bad.

The tv cable and bracket have to be positioned just right on the intake or adjustment of the cable will become a headache, also a aftermarket kit needs to be installed to make the lock-up torque converter operate, other than moving the cross-member back and shortening the driveshaft it will work.
