If your saw is a belt drive you should be able to change the arbor, if it is direct drive you are out of luck. I have the same problem. I own a good stack dado that I can not use, I am relegated to a wobble dado, because that is all that will fit.

Unless you are trying to add too many shims, or are using an after market stabilizer plate that is too thick, I'm surprised that your saw will not accommodate your stacked dado. I have a Jet , JWTS-10 and I can fit both blades , all the chippers and 2 thin brass shims from my dado set on it, with enough threads left showing to hold it securly in place. You didnt mention what brand of saw you have. The age of your saw may be a factor. Best bet is to contact the manufacturer of your saw .The worst thing you can do is to trust any Joe Blow at the local hardware store that says he can "fix it" for you.

Buy a wobble dado. They work very well for most DIY projects.
(A wobble dado, is an adjustable dado blade that has a gage to let you set a particular width of the cut.)

Most table saws will accomodate a dado blade without changing the shaft. If yours won't, you'll need to contact the dealer or manufacturer of your specific saw to find that information. It should have come with a manual describing exactly what sorts of blades it will accomodate ... check that if you have it.

I've seen arbor adaptors at Lowe's. I don't know how well they work as I haven't gotten to that project yet. But they do exist.

As long as you have an adapter that fits, it should have an adjustable 3 sided chuck. Go here-------* these are experts---
