in a society where you're given free education through 12th grade?
Seriously, all these people whining about "my job was outsourced to Mexico or Cambodia" - - - if some uneducated, barefoot, dirty peasant, living in a house made of mud with a thatch roof can do your job as well as you can, is that something you want everyone else to know?
Even the jobs going to India - call center, help desk - - you look at that as a career, something you should be able to support a family doing?
I know not all manufacturing jobs are the same - some of it is somewhat high-skill - - - those are the jobs that are typically kept; it's mostly the assembly and QC that's moved offshore.
That's basically sorting.
On what basis did you decide that you're entitled to a lifetime job with a salary on which you can raise a family, and benefits and a retirement plan, all for sorting things for 7 hours a day?
How did we get to a point where millions of us expect no more of themselves?

Not everyone is cut out to work with their minds. Some people are destined to be unskilled laborers. If we don't have jobs that allow these people to be productive in our society, then we must foot the bill to support them. Work or welfare, you make the choice.

People obviously decided they were entitled to that when they were hired by the company and shown what their benefits were. You have missed the point. Businesses that move out the this country so they can hire cheap labor are traitors to the United States. If they want to move to another country let them sell their wares there. No matter what you say or do, not every American citizen can be highly educated and therefore procure a high-paying job.

Good points made here.
The bottom line is that this country has raised a generation of people who have an entitlement mentality.
They think that they should be entitled to have the best house, job, cars, vacations and bank accounts. The work ethic has left many... and many become angry when you suggest they work harder, smarter and faster.
This country was built on the idea that you reap what you work for. There are a lot of people now that want to push a socialist economy and tell the lazy of the world that its someone else's fault you are not making 200 k a year with a 5 grade education.
Its about personal responsibility and drive. We all have the same opportunity in this country. Its up to you to succeed or to fail.
Unless you are very old, crippled or mentally disabled, you have no one to blame but you're own self if you are lazy, uneducated and jobless.

You got it! People forgot about efficiency and liberty! I hear liberals complain everyday about jobs leaving and what do they do................????? They raise taxes and drive business and economic growth away! These people have double standards and none of them understand how the economy truly works! Some people out there are just lazy, others don't care about others so as long as they have a job that's all they think about. Even if it is a government inefficient job that will lead to future private sector unemployment. It isn't about bettering themselves or society. It's about getting a paycheck today for minimal work! That's a liberal for you! Double standard, double standard, double standard. Most of the problems they ***** about, they started in the first place! I'm not even a republican! I just see the third grade mentality when I talk to a liberal. It's like no matter what they are never wrong! At least a conservative will tell you when they don't know something about politics! A liberal just keeps on opening there mouth and ACTING educated while the rest of us silently laugh in our heads! People always think they are to good for something but ***** when it goes other places where people dying from a shitty economy are begging for these jobs! Just pisses me off! What's nice about a developed nation is the fact that there are always new job openings and people can work on an at-will-employment! We have so much in this nation and people just sit around complaining instead of adding to the production process! On top of that....they enslave them through high taxes. Are taxes necessary, minimal taxes sure. But when the government gets 40% of our dollar every year.....we are in some deep crap. Problem is, liberals are statists. They don't understand economic growth....they think it comes from the government. Government is their religion! Scares the **** out of me! I see conservatives doing it nowadays and it makes me wonder.....when will the freedomists have to stand up for the people again? When will the people of the world understand liberty to the fullest extent? ~ Libertarian

noone has a right to a job. If India can do it better, it is best to seize on the comarative advantage such an economic opportunity would allow. We do not want to repeat the errors of New Zealand made in the 70's.
However, even Adam Smith in the Wealth of Nations did argue that some industry is necessary for security of a nation to be inefficent and protected rather than efficent and not protected.

Agree with you totallly.
America is the land of opportunities, provided that people actually appreciate these opportunities and are willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. Unfortunately, many people take it for granted that they should have good life without hard work. By hard work, I mean actually willing to stay in school to get a decent education and willing the challenge themselves to do hard things. Many first generation immigrants to this country, for example, arrive with no English and no education to speak of. But they work hard and they make sacrifices for their children to get an education, and these children grow up to be engineers and doctors and lawyers and business owners. This is what this great America is about, survival of the fittest, social Darwinism.

Yes BUT they are going to work a hole lot of hours. The minimum wage jobs are starting jobs. One can choose to stay at that level or work your way up. If the government insist that you get a "Living Wage" that in only cause inflation.
The illegals have proven that one can make it in the land of opportunity. Why can't you are they more capable than you?

Perhaps, if the education was put right, one would be able to earn a decent living with what education is PUBLICALLY provided. I think that should be a minimal goal of public education. Much of it treats student's time as if it is worthless and makes students FEEL worthless, at least in MY experience.

I don't believe a person should be entitled to a darn thing, except those which he/she has paid for like Social Security.
Anytime the government takes over the support of people, they will readily give up their freedom. Most of them realize they made a mistake when it is too late.

The use of the word entitlement means the government is responsible for jobs. I don't think it is.
