My school offers classes marked "H" and "H/AP" and as I understand, all AP classes would be considered honors classes but not all honors classes are AP classes. How correct am I?

Not all honors courses are AP courses.

AP coursework covers a fairly standard curriculum and is accompanied by a cumulative exam. The exam is written by the CollegeBoard (who also brought you the SAT!). It is optional. You pay to take it. You can take AP exams without taking the classes, btw.

Honors curricula are set by the teachers (and/or their administrators), and there is no standardized qualifying exam at the end.

Both kinds of coursework are meant to be rigorous. However, with AP credits, you may be allowed to waive certain introductory courses at university or you may be granted extra units.

AP classes prepare the student to take a test over subject matter that equates to college credit. Honors classes are more intense and typically go at a faster pace than traditional courses. Not all students who take Honors classes are interested in taking the AP test. Just think of AP classes as college courses in a high school environment. Good luck.

The major difference is that when taking an AP class, it is ultimately preparing you to take the AP test in that subject. Based on your score on that test you can receive college credit if eligible. Taking AP classes looks good because they are supposedly more difficult (they really aren't) and it looks like you are challenging yourself. Both look good on your transcript. And I don't necessarily think that AP classes are honors classes, but that might just depend on your school.
Basically, to be an AP class curriculum has to be approved by the national collegeboard. A school itself just decides to make a class honors or not.

With AP classes you can take an AP exam and if you pass, you can use the credit from the class as a college credit and not have to take that class in college.

AP categories get waiting the coed to take a test over section subject count number that equates to organisation credit. Honors categories are extra extreme and many times pass at a swifter velocity than huge-unfold guides. no longer all scholars who take Honors categories are all for taking the AP test. only have self assurance of AP categories as organisation guides in a primary training environment. stable fulfillment.
