to practice spelling the word school. . . LOL, okay, no really, as a teacher, I can answer that- some HW is busy work. It should be outlawed. It's dumb and a waste of your time. Otherwise, think about how long you are actually in a class (assuming you are in middle or high school) maybe 45 minutes. . .11/2 if you have block scheduling but that's every other day or half a year. By the time you sit down, do bellwork, hear a lecture or presentation, have a discussion, etc. . . there isn't enough time to practice math, write an essay, or work on a project. A lot of your 7 hours is P.E., lunch, transfering classes, and non-core subjects, so in actuality, you may get 4 45 min. classes with a total of 2 hours of work done in those. My suggestion- use all the free time you have in school to work on HW (other than projects) and you'll probably get most of it done. That is unless 1. you are in advanced classes in which case you'll be preparing for college where you'll have twice as much homework, or 2. you are slow, in which case you'll be working to keep up for the rest of your life, so get used to it

Because there are jobs out there that require you to work while not at the office and not on the clock.
