and you are up by 3 points, do you pull your First string out and let the Second string take over? If so, won't you eventually have to put your first string back in at some point to have a chance of winning? Why pull the first string out of this war only to have to go back later?

Our troops are the first string, and Trident missles cost money which no one else has.

Half, no one said how long the game would be, I don't think 1 out of 3 batters are getting hurt, the previous manager is to blame for the lack of equipment, I'm talking football not baseball, and a majority of the fans are sissy PC'ers with out a backbone.

The fact is. . . you don't . You don't pull-out your top guys in the beginning of the ball-game, only to let the other team make gains and do damage !!
Another one that folks should understand . When at a ball-game, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Olympics, etc, it is a verifiable fact that when the crowd over-whelmingly cheers for the 'home team' that generally many victories are attained . The other team is generally confused and disoriented and sent scrambling to re-group . Many times the crowd can prompt a huge come-back, while the other guys are still adjusting to the sudden onslaught !!
We Need More Cheerleaders For Our Team. . . . and there's no better place to start, than right here at home !!
Support our Troops and their Commanders. . . .Especially the #1 commander of all the Armed Forces. . President Bush .

because the offensive coordinator doesnt want any of his players to get hurt or tackled or anything, even though they joined the team for a reason. He would rather throw in his rookie players (nato), which aren't really experienced and come from many different colleges.. so they dont know each other and have been trained to do different things while on the field, because he doesnt really know them and he really doesnt care as much about them... to be frank.
He tries not to think about what will happen later, just stressing the concern of his key players.. "Maybe the other team's fans (the insurgents) will get bored and go home..?"
The rookie's family + friends (liberals) agree, begining to yell and cheer for the offensive coordinator; Agreeing with their selfishly putting their desire to see their rookies play, ahead of what's best for the team, logically...
The Coach, in a demanding, frustrated tone, says "Or maybe they will thrive and love their team even more, and their yells and cheers will attract more passer-by's, as a result of the other team scoring 5 touchdown's, intercepting 7 passes, and recovering 3 fumbles by the end of the first quarter."
The offensive coordinator still stresses his concerns, the rookies fan's.. seeing the opportunity.. turn against the coach to gain support for the offensive coordinators initiation (which lacks a plan, and refuses to make one)...
Slowly and sneakily, the offensive coordinator's propaganda begin's to brainwash the fans logical minds, rendering them illogical and irrational... the offensive coordinator threatens the Coach to make the line change, or else he will dump all of the players water bottles and, since he owns them legally, he will take the players body armor, too. he even tries to break into the players water bottles, but the coach and the 1st line players resist him.
[the future] ->
The game continues on, its the end of the 2nd quarter. the offensive coordinator replaced the Coach at the end of the 1st quarter when the score was only 10-0. (3 afghanistan/9.11 + 7 iraq war).
The score is now 35-10, after the other team has scored 5 touchdown's, intercepted 7 passes, and recovered 3 fumbles.
The coordinator has loses support, deservingly. His team in shambles, pitied by the rest of the league. The original Rookie's Fans are ignored, the coordinator has lost all confidence of the crowd and the players.
The team collectively throws the coordinator out and replaces him with the Coach, again.
Its 35-10 at half and the other teams players, staff, and fans are all confident and ready. The Coach's team's chances of pulling this off and winning are looking slim, if even any.
Now, to win the team is going to have to work unbelievable hard. They are going to have to take a lot of risks. They are going to get injured, many may lose their careers to win. If they do win, it will be just barely, and they will withstand severe physical punishments.

i just multiplied that annologies sexiness by 11! lol.
you might face criticism for comparing the war to a game, but i get your point and i understand you dont mean to say soldiers join the army because they like to win or shoot other people.

gary b - they are 2 seperate, unrelated budgets. The militaries budget can not be lowered due to a debt in a different budget. nice try though.

Here's a different analogy:
It's the World Series, and instead of the promised limit of the series going 6 games, you have now been forced to play 21 extra games with no end in sight.
And the opposing pitchers continue to bean every third batter.
Your team mgmt. has also not provided enough batting helmets for everyone, so some of your batters' injuries are more serious than necessary.
With the injuries piling up, your team is forced to play with Little Leaguers and making every non-injured major league player play with no rest.
Finally, your fans have had enough of the carnage and poor game management and demand that the series end.

I was wondering where you were going with this football thing but you are right. This will let us lose because no one remembers what Bush said to the Joint session of Congress after 9-11, this was going to be a war that would not be over shortly it would be long and cover many areas.

this war was never fought with just the first string. there are a lot of reserves an national guard over there..... amazing we don't have enough troops when our military budget is nearly as high as the rest of the world combined.

If the other 31 teams found out you LIED AND CHEATED to get to the Super Bowl, they would have a fit about it. Bush lied and cheated to get to this war, so the American public is having a fit about it, and wanted it changed by "releasing and cutting" your players in the Senate and placed new players in it.
Think about it....

It reveals just how far out of touch with reality you have to be to still support Bush's failed lie-based quagmire in Iraq.
