It depends on the college. However I have heard of many people who went to college after getting their GED, so I don't think that you will have any problems

Almost all colleges will accept GED's as the equivalent of a high school diploma. However--you need to satisfy all the requirements that the colleges have for normal applicants. This includes SAT's or ACT, and any other tests they require, recommendations, etc.
Most colleges do not have specific exams to the college--they reserve placement tests for people who have been admitted, and these tests determine what courses it's appropriate for these people to take.
Every college is different though--some colleges may have specific tests you can take. This is more likely with community colleges that only offer associate degrees though. Few 4-year colleges require specific placement exams to get in, if you've taken the SAT's.
In some ways you will have a disadvantage applying to college but in other ways you may have advantages over other students. Older students and students who got their GED instead of completing high school may have a weaker academic background but they often have more life experience and greater motivation. This can go a huge way to getting you into college (and also helping you do well when you get there).
My biggest piece of advice for you is to try to locate some people whom you could talk to about this in person. Do you have any friends who got a GED and then went on to go to college? You might also want to set up an appointment with some college admissions officers--find a college you want to go to and go to the admissions department, set up an appointment (like an informal interview) and ask them what YOU can do to prepare. Not only will these people give you advice about what you need to do to get into the school, but colleges really like it when they know someone is serious. Then you can go do all the stuff you need to do (SAT's, etc). and apply.
Good luck!

congratulations! to enroll in a 4 year college, you will need to take the SAT or ACT...but if you want to test the waters, take a class or two at your local community college. Many of them don't require entrance exams.
good luck.

In today's market a G.E.D. is almost a useless piece of paper. You need to contact you last high school for your transcripts. Then you will know what credit points you have. Find out where to get the credits to complete your high school diploma. It carries more weight because it proves you have the integrity to complete tasks. You'll have a easier time obtaining entrance to a college. Study for your S.A.T before taking them, if your not pleased with your score you can retake them. Keep it going .... You CAN do it, in 5 yrs. from now, it will change your life.
