I almost agree with you. It's been said that an unexamined life is not worth living. I tend to agree more with that statement than life alone.

A life not shared, worked on, offered up to a higher cause is not necessarily profoundly precious. Is a selfish life or a destructive life so precious? Better a short life in the service of love or in the service of others than a long, cruel life in the service of hate or destruction. What is most precious to me is not my life but the lives of my children, my parents, my teachers, the soldiers I don't know who give up their lives so that I can persue what I choose.

My life pales next to the selfless souls who choose study or selfless contemplation in order that my life be better. There was a woman who is called St. Therese, the little flower. She beseeched the powers that be to allow her to become a cloistered nun at age 15. Eventually, she was given permission. Someone asked her if her life wouldn't be better spent nursing or working out in the world. She explained that some people are meant for the outside world...the "fancy flowers" sort of people.

She believed with all her being that she could best serve by being a "little flower" and by spending her time praying for people. She became a cloistered nun, spent her very short life praying for the planet and the people on it and died. She was a little flower, the kind of flower that enhances the beauty of the fancy flowers. If I could be a little flower, I would consider my life precious. I strive to be a little flower. Precious is for others to decide. Live now, label later.

By precious, many think of what they would not want to lose most.

Since we can not lose life, (stop being), it certainly is nice, but precious, I don’t know.
