I would say that this war is a necessary evil, not good, but based on the fact that we, (the USA) have been attacked by radical Islamic fundamentalists at home and abroad at least since 1983, some of the more noteable examples being;
-1983- April 18th Eighty-three people are killed at the US Embassy in Beirut.
- 1983- October 29th- 241 US Marines are killed in a truck bombing in Beirut by the Islamic Jihad
1984-September 20th- The US embassy in the Beirut is bombed- 15 are killed
1986- September 5th A Pan Am aircraft is hijacked by Palestinain terrorists. Twenty passengers are killed.
1988- Pan Am flight 103 is blown up over Lockerbie Scotland. All 259 passengers and crew are killed.
1993- February 26th- A bomb explodes in the basement of the World Trade Center in New York- Six die 1,000 are injured.
1995- November 13: Bombing of military compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia kills 7
1998- August 7th – The US embassies in mairobi Kenya and Dar es Salamm Tanzania are bombed killing 225 people and injuring more than 4,000.
2000 -October 12: USS Cole bombing kills 17 US sailors.

And of course the 9-11 tragedy.
After 9-11 President Bush decided we had to be pro-active, 1st against Al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan, because the Taliban government was not willing to cooperate with the US and was openly willing to harbor Al-Qaida.
2nd was Iraq, this is more controvertial, but the Iraqi government was very anti-US, and was believed to have WMDs by every major intelligence agency in the world, (not just Bush & Cheney as some would have you believe). In fact Sadam was ACTING like he had them by not letting inspectors into suspected areas, and breaking special seals on facilities which they weren't supposed to be operating in. Weather they ever existed or not is not the only reason for us to pursue a regime change in Iraq. While radical Islamics come from many middle easter nations, Iraq was one that was not willing to cooperate with us in capturing them.

So, the war is not "good", but there was logic to us getting involved, and to bail on it now would be nothing short of disasterous for many reasons.

War in itself is evil and one of the major shortcomings of the world.
However, in the case of Iraq, there has to be a time when the greater good of the masses has to be taken into account. Iraq and the middle east have been a mess forever. The British defeated the Ottoman Empire and divided these countries up without having a clue as the the huge ethnic and religious differences they sliced and diced. The result has been a century of dictators and corrupt governments and the suffering of any people that were not close to the rulers. Saddam ruled as a ruthless dictator and that sort of worked for a while. George W. Bush thought that he could get in there and carve out an American style democracy with a few thousand men and tanks. He missed the essential ethnic and religious differences, thinking that they would all fall into line for his rhetoric. Well it just did not happen and now we are in the position of being the police in a civil war.
The obvious solution is to divide the country into three autonomous areas with one central government, but that flies in the face of American policy makers.

I think there's a lot of sketchy reasons why we're 'fighting the war against Iraq' even though a lot of these words can mislead. Basically George Bush sends troops to Iraq because Saddam Hussein and his supporters attacked us. So the broadcasted reason is that since they're dictator is attacking us we have to mention how bad he's treating his country and others and take him out of power. It's sort of like when someone bullies you, you wanna get him back to let everyone know that you're gonna stand up for yourself. And then the other part is that we 'helping' Iraq free itself from Saddam's evil grasp because we are a kind generous country. There are alot of other reasons too I'm sure but those are the reasons that most people will want to hear.

Ask yourself this question and assume that you are a Muslim from Saudi Arabia: If I take one of Osams suitcase nuclear devises and blow up New York City what would happen to the Middle East? You the fictitious Muslim bomber would have to figure that several middle eastern country's would be invaded at least or nuked worst case. What do you think the Muslim would do? I think the Muslim would not even think about any more terrorists acts for fear of severe retribution. And that is a good thing about the war.

That's pretty tough, as I oppose the War as well.
I suppose the war is "good" because if we succeed, Iraq will be a U.S. ally & we will control a large oil resource in the middle east, easing supply demands & in turn helping our economy. Also it will help forgien policy as Iran will have some oppistion in the region. That's about all I can say IF we suceed in stabalizing the country.

Why is the war good? Since this is a homeowrk assignment, you should check out www.obsessionthemovie.com!

The war is good because it is protecting us in America! I'm sad because my husband is deployed and I haven't seen him in a while! but I understand what is going on and I'm thankful that we have men and women who volunteer to protect us!

Isn't it better to be fighting them over there, on their turf, than over here, on ours?
