No, video games don't make you dumber. After many hours of play, some people tend to get sick or have visual problems, but that's with watching TV as well. It doesn't make you dumb.
Actually, I'd recommend most of them because games like Resident Evil and all the other 1st person survival games help out with sense of direction, hand-eye coordination, interaction, and how to follow directions. If children are playing games, then it gives them the determination to reach a goal. I just think that if children play video games, they should stay within the age range the game companies suggest (e.g. you don't want a 5 year old attempting to play GTA: San Andreas.)
I don't think video games should get in the way of school work, but their positives would outweigh the negatives. I'd say go for it. But hey, it's safer than sitting unattended on a computer all day :)

That is assuming that one is dumb in the first place. Actually, I think too much time at video games sucks the life out of people, but some of them help with hand/eye coordination. Moderation is good.

Nah. There are video games meant specifically for education. Brain age is a good one. They can turn you into a hermit but not dumb.

if you play them all day yes, but if its only like an hour or two a day it wont. Reason being your not learning real life or how to cope in social enviroments if thats all you do
