Make every teacher compete on that show where you go against a 5th grader to see who's smarter. If they lose they get fired just like in the apprentice. Think of the ratings! A new teacher every night, we could stimulate the economy while cleaning the schools of the terrible teachers we all know they are filled with in the US!

PS: I know there would be no teachers left so this wouldnt work but I think its a good idea.

"There IS a new show called "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader", hosted by a guy on Blue Collar TV.(sry. i 4get his name) "

No sh*t retard thats what I was referring to. But with LAUSD teachers specificly and they get fired if they lose and get a raise to 30,000k a year if they win. Lol it sucks they make that little I think thats half the problem.

@ Magi 200…

I agree, more funding is the key. Go back to phonics (thats how I learned). I went to a montessori school for those who know what that is and it worked great when I was younger.

No more bussing and no more illegal immegrants

There are hundreds of thousands of good teachers. There's lots of teachers that are a lot smarter than most business leaders. The problem with our educational system isn't the teachers, its the administrative system that is focused on testing rather than on learning, that sends all of its money to the schools where wealthy kids live (who could afford to support their own schools) rather than to the schools where kids need the most, and that, ultimately, is designed to indoctrinate students into the corporate-consumerist culture without truly educating them.

That wouldn't help anyone. We need to stop blaming the teachers for not being able to teach so many kids and start giving the teachers the funding they need (whch keeps being sucked up by athletics and administrative promotions).

Here's some crazy ideas:

Stop spending so much money on music and drama classes and start teaching the kids the basics

Stop teaching memorized reading and go back to phonics

Stop allowing illegal immigrants to enroll their children in public schools (that'll take about 6 million students off the teachers' backs)

Start having manditory graduation exams overseen by the school board, not the individual schools

Require periodic "grade level assesments" to ensure that the children are reading and writing at their grade level or above

Stop passing the stupid kids along (passing a child so you don't need to teach him is common place in the school system, hence all the iliteracy)

It's not that the teachers are bad, they just have too many students and not enough time. I'm sure the idea appeals to those of you who are ignorant of the real problems in schools. Teachers aren't the problem, they're just trying to do what they can with what they're given.

Short version: Study harder, you'll appreciate your teachers more.

I couldn't agree more! I graduated from high school about 2 years ago, and by now I hardly remember a thing that I learned from school. What I do remember is what Learned on my own. I also used to live in Europe, and let me tell you.... education there is a lot better. Teachers know what they are doing, they know the subject very well, they know how to make their students memorize what they learned, and overall they are very educated. On the other hand, teachers in US hardly even know the material they are teaching. They give credit to slackers and don't explain the subject at all. What most of them do is make their students read a book, then throw a quiz, and that's it - here is the whole learning process. So yes, I agree with you 100%, there should be some sort of eliminating system.

No, I don't think it is a good idea because good teachers are about more than a head full of facts. A good teacher can get a kid to care about finding an answer, whether the teacher has a clue about the correct answer, or not.
A good teacher can allow and encourage a child to surpass them. A good teacher may not be able to beat a third grader in a math test, but still be able to get 30 kids to graduate from 8th grade with decent or high GPAs.

That is what No Child Left Behind is supposed to be doing. That is why the teachers are screaming like banshees.

The teachers and their terrorist organization union would just fail to show up to work in a protest.
