Denial Of Service; it's an attack rendering a system unresponsive or unusable. I guess that has all kinds of uses but I'm not devious enough to think of any.

MS-DOS (short for Microsoft Disk Operating System) is an operating system commercialized by Microsoft. It was the most widely used member of the DOS family of operating systems and was the dominant operating system for the PC compatible platform during the 1980s. It has gradually been replaced on consumer desktop computers by various generations of the Windows operating system.

It was the standard PC operating system that Windows was based on. The latest releases of Windows do not use DOS and this was the cause of some problems as certain software used the underlying DOS.
DOS has been around in one form or another for at least 35 years. IBM mainframes (360, 370 and so on) used to use DOS as their typical operating system in the 70's.

DOS stands for disk operating system, it was MS original operating system it sold to ibm. now when people refer to dos they are referring to a dos window which is an interface for communicating with the computer. windows has what you call graphical user interface which means it has icons and menus you can see and interact with visually. DOS is a prompt based interface which means you can only type commands into it. you can use the dos interface to do things that you would normally do on a graphical user interface like open a file or view the contents of a folder.

DOS = Disk Operating System it is from the dark ages but still a few windows commands are DOS based. Originally Windows was just a pretty front end to DOS which was the real operating system, slowly DOS is disappearing from the Windows environment and will be missed by many but not most.

Disk Operating System!!! It was the first operating system put out by Microsoft. Later, Windows was added to DOS for the ignoramuses who couldn't remember their codes. It was a fast system to get on compared to the present Windows. Microsoft has integrated Windows with DOS in all its new releases. What use is it??? If you have an older computer it is a faster way to go. But it won't run any new programs.

DOS stands for Disk Operating System. Before Windows, when there was no graphical interface, all commands were processed from the command line. DOS was the command system that processed all of this.
