I have looked up many care sheets and I know practially everything I need to know about Ball Pythons. I had wanted a Bearded Dragon about 5 years ago and she wouldn't let me get one then. I'll ask her and she'll be like sure as long as it stays at your dad's house. I don't see him much and the snake would get neglected if it stayed there. That wouldn't be fair to the snake. I am very good with animals and have 2 cats and a dog, and had had cats since I was little. I have always loved snakes and they are very good with me, like I caught one (Garter Snake) wild and it calmed down and was very friendly. I really want one and I try to like keep my room clean like last night my mom was like you need to make sure your room's clean if your friend's comming over and I was like it's already clean!=D Any advise would be wonderful! Thanks ahead of time!!

I would wait a week. During that week be the best little person in the world; do chores without her asking you, keep your room clean, try to do really well on your homework, stuff like that. This will show her that you are responsible and would be able to take care of a snake. After that week tell her everything you know about Ball Pythons and then ask her. Hope you get one!

There's a couple of tactics to try. The first is to ask her calmly why she is aginst you having a snake. That will give you a place to start on what you need to do. Chances are good your mom has several of the common misconceptions about snakes (they're slimy, they're evil, they'll eat the cat/dog/me, they're venomous, etc.), you can probably dispel most of these yourself, although if you have a friend that has a snake it'll make things go easier, failing that, try a pet store. If it turns out that she just doesn't want you to get a snake, you may be out of luck. Another tactic that might work is go ahead and get it, following her suggestion of it staying at your dad's house, but shortly thereafter have her try and hold it. My mom used to hate snakes and holding one completely turned her around. Chances are good the same might happen with your mom and then you can keep it at your mom's place.

Look at it this way. It's your moms house . .if she don't want it in there respect that.

When you get your own house then get one. You will be responsible for its well being and safety. No one else will be there to give the creature what it needs if you go swanning off on a holiday or just lose interest.

Oh, cats really look after themselves, give them some grub and a place to sleep, that's it.

Dogs need affection, does yours see you as its alpha mate or is it your mom?

And whilst I'm lecturing you ;-) .. .don't take creatures like snakes from the wild

Well, I actually have the same experience as you but we have a different issue - the magazine I've always loved. I and my sister secretly buy these magazines. But we stopped because money is getting low. We have to save money. Why don't you buy a glass cage (they might be lost) and a snake? Put that cage with the snake in a secret place your mom doesn't know. And escape food to feed it.

I totally understand your mom's point of view.
You already have 3 pets in her house, and one more may just be too much. Even though you seem like you know what you are talking about, keeping your school priorities with that of the demands of your dog, cats, friends, father, and etc, a snake jus may add to much to it.

You should tell her everything you know about Ball Pythons. Show her that you have the knowledge to take great care of it. Let her know what great temperments they have and that they don't get big enough to be dangerous. Also, ask her why she doesn't want you to own one. If it's something you can fix, fix it.

Good luck! Ball Pythons are great animals.

if your mom knows how much you would care for the snake, i say go for it. i have a jack Russell, 2 hermit crabs, 3 crickets (my spider wasn't hungry), a tarantula and a ball python...as long as you promise to clean up after all your pets and take care of them the way they should be taken care of, i say there's no reason why you shouldn't have one.
