It would advance the model of traditional families (Mom, Dad, kids).
It could reduce abortions.
It would reduce the state burden for orphans and abandoned children.
It would empty orphanages and other similar institutions.
It would alleviate pressure on the foster family system.
It would be Christianlike.
It would slow the rate of adoption by homosexual couples and single parents.

I'm looking for other views: for or against.

Good grief no!
Most of the couple I know who have chosen to remain childless really NEED to be childless! They are far to self-centered to incorporate another innocent human being into their life.

Let's give all the unwanted children to the Bible thumpers who spout off about the ills of abortion. (With no governmental aid to help them either.)

No one should be forced to adopt a child, for any reason. Adoption is NOT an easy way to build a family. As far as orphans and foster situations, the majority of the kids in those settings have disabilities or really ugly abuse histories. Any healthy "normal" kids ARE adopted...there aren't enough of them to go around. As far as homosexual couples go....I think they should be able to adopt....they are the ones most willing to take the kids out of foster care that no one wants...kids with AIDS, kids of a different race.......the ones the good Christian people aren't lining up to bring into their homes.

It's a 'big gov't' initiative and I know the majority of all who identify as conservative disagree with big gov't.

The number of married couples is also significantly decreasing, beyond that would you offer financial support for the parents? How could you be sure that they wouldn't abuse the children?

How would this exactly decrease abortion?? People who don't want the baby usually don't want the pregnancy.

We all ready don't have enough people to foster... explore the foster system if you really want to take care of an unloved child!

It would slow the rate of all those things and I think that heterosexual couples should be encouraged to adopt, but not forced. After all, I wouldn't be too thrilled if someone said I had to take care of someone else's kid.
IWhat we need is a better adoption agency, one that doesn't cost thousands of dollars and can get better word out to parents who would be willing to adopt kids.

Ofcourse not. No child would benifit by being adopted by parents that didn't want to adopt them. Also, I don't see how this would reduce abortions, and most of the children in the foster system are not available for adoption anyway.

I think definately not. Just cause your a hetrosexual couple that doesnt mean that your stable enough to be forced to raise a child. In theory i understand your idea. Keeping children off the streets and out of shelters. However i just firmly believe it would not end up in a positive light. Good question though.

No. Nobody should be forced to have or not have kids. I am for abortion, but those kids forced onto parents would not get the attention or anything they deserve. They may even be physically and/or emotionally abused.

No. People in the US have the right to choose, not to be forced. And, it would not be a very good home for the kids if they were not wanted.

No one should be forced, but there is a long line of people waiting and trying to adopt children. This supposed baby surplus is a LIEberal, black heart, lying dog lie.

OK, how about a compromise. If we can force unwed women on birth control then yes we can force wed couples to adopt.

How about that.
