I don't know what it is, but it feels like I stopped living when I was 10. I mean it is like you go to the grocery store with a purpose and a task, you gather up all you need, comparing prices, check to make sure all the eggs are unbroken and the bread fresh, but after all that is done you just hang around. That's how I feel, I did all a child could do, but I feel like I stopped living and am just hanging around. What am I missing? What is causing me to stay and not get on with the my life?

The answer is simple to explain, but hard to carry out.
You need a passionate purpose...a goal you really care about. Then you try like hell to achieve it. What happens next...you will be challenged like crazy...in other words, it won't be easy. As you strive against adversity to get what you want, you'll have to DO THE HARD THINGS. You'll have to tap into the strengths inside in order to move step by step towards your goal. If you do, you'll get stronger as a person...i.e., you'll GROW UP.
AND, you'll move closer and closer to achieving the goal that means so much to you.
This is a serious answer to your question. Can you do it?

There are alot of reasons. Was there something traumatic that happened to you as a child? Like a death of someone you loved? Are you married, dating, children? Everyone has a purpose on this earth, (Thats what I beleive anyway) Maybe you havent figured yours out yet. What do you like to do. Do you work? Have you any interest in anything like going back to school, picking up a sport? Volunteering at a hospital or day care center?Could you be afraid to be alone? Or maybe it isnt something as deep as you think. Maybe you are ADHD with inattentiveness. Depressed? Maybe you just want to have fun and your friends are just boring. Sit and write down your feelings everyday for a while then go back and read them. The answers you are looking for may jump out at you. If you see a certain pattern, follow it. Work on one thing at a time. Good luck

The thing is this world is called Maya (illusion) it is temporary and full of misery. We are not this body,IE; race, nationality, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc.- we are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. No one can be happy in this world unless they connect with their Maker. They are just in a deep illusion if they are thinking they are materially happy. It is normal to feel the way you do if you don't know your eternal relationship with the Creator. Chanting the Maha Mantra puts one in direct contact with Him. (The great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion.By chanting this mantra it removes all the dust from our consciousness and heart and reawakens our true self. for more info go to harekrishnatemple.c Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhulpada.- tells the purpose of life and who we truly are in reality. I use to feel that way since I was 11 to the age of 27 and now I am so glad I found the Truth and reality the Beautiful.

Yes to a child, a grownups life seams totally meaningless.
And children are the ones who are ALIVE, as far as I'm concerned.
I say live your life as through the eyes of a child, don't listen to people, don't buy their cr*p, keep a low profile and enjoy the freedom. Don't cling to the illusion...
“Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.”
Don't believe your friends when they ask you to be honest with them. All they really want is to be maintained in the good opinion they have of themselves.”
I know of only one duty, and that is to love”
The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

Get a worthwhile hobby. Even if it's building model cars or airplanes or something, it gives you something to do other than hang around. A dog would help with this too, but maybe start with a plant. Or a fish.

Be spontaneous! Do something different, change up your routines. Too often we get stuck in a day to day routine and forget that there is much much more to you - personally - and to the world. My two cents!

The simple answer would be, Inertia.
However, that hardly recognizes the true question which seems to be, "Is that all there is ?"
And sadly the answer really is quite simply put, yes.
