Steinbrenner is the greatest MLB owner of all-time. He is good to the people that count, the fans of the NYY. The NYY make more $ than all the other teams combined because they have the greatest, most supportive fans in the world. George shows his gratitude by giving the fans the best team that he can. It's not about making $ with him. It's about giving the people what they want.
As far as his charitable contributions, he has always stepped forward as one of the biggest givers in NYC. He even makes one of the largest donations to the Red Sox' "Jimmy Fund" every year. He is a class act on and off the field.
Long live George Steinbrenner!!!
DE-REK!!! JE-TER!!!
FENWAY77 can throw out numbers like 12,000 in the 80's and 90's because HE thinks it sounds about right, when really he has no clue. Yankee Stadium has drawn over 4 million fans in each of the last 2 seasons, records for MLB.

I don't dislike Steinbrenner the person, I dislike Steinbrenner the owner. Steinbrenner the person is the one who was benevolent enough to help those families in their times of need. Steinbrenner the owner is a guy that buys wins year after year. He overpays for names and has guys who are all stars warming the bench. He hasn't gotten the reliable pitching to get the job done last few years. I'm suprised he didnt make a run at Zito. He could be better as an owner, but he's great as a person. We as fans have to learn how to seperate the athlete/coach/owner from the person.

I never was a "hater" of Mr. Steinbrenner; I disapprove of his meddling in Joe Torres' leadership as manager of the Yankees.
What a lot of people don't know is that Steinbrenner has always been involved in the inner-city kids programs. He has donated millions of dollars to organizations for years but not many people know it because that's a part of him he wants to keep private.
I think some of those immigrants were from Honduras also.

NACNUD is absolutely a nut case. the most loyal fans around? Please...I recall in the 80's and 90's when the Yankees stunk poopie they were packing them in...about 12,000 "diehards" per game.
Now they still can't sell out all of their games. That's why their building the new stadium with about 10,000 fewer seats.
It was nice of Steinbrenner to help those families. He's still a lamebrain owner (people forget he was suspended from the game for two years)...

I don't hate him. I wish the Royals owner, David Glass, would flash some cash around like Steinbrenner does and pay to get some good players in KC. Its not like Glass doesn't have any money, he was President and CEO of Wal-Mart.

It's good to see him spend his money on something besides trying to buy the world Series.
